Four tips to ensure you start the Chinese New Year well

It is coming into the year of the Pig and with only three weeks to go, we are getting prepared.  People born in the year of the pig are full of energy, enthusiasm and excitement.  They are not wasteful, however, they do enjoy material things, giving them a motivation to work hard.    Their homes are highly organising and they despise a messy room, Pigs will often give Marie Kondo a run for her money when it comes to staying up all night to ensure a clean, well organised and tidy space.

Even if it is not your year, it is still a great time to shut one door and open another to welcome in the new year.  Homes need to be fresh and clean as visitors drop in for the celebrations and there is nothing more satisfying than visiting the Auckland Lantern Festival and coming home to a calm welcoming space.   We have helped you with four tips to get your home New Year ready.

Cleaning

Whether at work or at home we make a checklist for each room.  I keep my checklist on google keep so I don’t need to rewrite it each year, I can just re-populate it and add to it as necessary.  I also declutter as I go putting seasonal items and the stuff that is sentimental but it is taking up to much space into a box to go into my storage unit.  Once the cleaning is complete we take huge pleasure in wandering into the garden with a sharp pair of scissors to fill our shiny and sparkling vases with fresh cut flowers.

Decorating

It is our favourite time of year to head into Wah Lees in Hobson Street to shop for Chinese New Year decorations to create a wonderful atmosphere in our house with lanterns and decorations.  The mailbox is also exciting as our wonderful Aunt also sends us hand cut Chinese symbols in the post to decorate our home with.

Food

No celebration is complete without a spread of food for guests.  Start stocking up now and fill your homes with love and food to satisfy the decadence of New Year.

Reorganise

Study the Feng Shui for the 2019 year and get your house in order.  If you have too much stuff this may prove difficult.  Many of our customers are regularly in and out of the storage facility at this time of the year as they move things around to ensure a prosperous and auspicious year.
