Do you know where to donate when you clean out your storage
Seeing the wonderful initiatives popping up around West Auckland in the past few months including the Rainbow Shed and Community pantries and the overwhelming generosity of people towards others made us think about some of the items stored both in our homes and at our storage facility.
Regifting or donating your unused and unwanted items is a far better feel-good factor than hiding them at the back of your storage unit or taking them to landfill. It benefits other and our environment. Within the West Auckland community, some organisations will take your excess toiletries (unused), clothing, toys, electronics and furniture and household items and re-distribute them where needed.
All e-waste can be dropped off to Eco Matters in New Lynn where it will be broken down into separate components and either recycled locally or shipped off to an accredited electronics recycling plant.
Hospice takes all clean and saleable clothing, furniture and household goods with all proceeds going to supporting and providing palliative care for West Aucklanders with terminal or life-limiting illnesses.
Restore will take (and pick up) all used goods for resale which enables the organisation to repair, rebuild and build homes around the world for people affected by poverty and disaster.
The WARC will take any materials to be used for arts, crafts and DIY, from books to wood offcuts, wool, paint etc.
Give them a call, and they will take your recyclables away and redistribute or recycle them. They work closely with various charities and can repurpose unwanted stuff that would otherwise have ended up in the landfill.
